CASA Launches 2026 In-Service Training Series with Powerful Lived Experience
“The Impact of CASA Across a Lifetime: Lived Experience as a Youth and Parent.”
CASA of Jefferson County is beginning its 2026 in-service training series with a thoughtful and impactful lineup designed to strengthen volunteer advocacy and deepen understanding of the issues affecting children and families in our community. This year’s trainings reflect our commitment to providing relevant, timely education that responds directly to the needs we see in Jefferson County.
The opening training features guest speaker Treasure Blevins, who offers a powerful opportunity to hear directly from someone whose life has been shaped by CASA advocacy across generations. As a child in foster care, Treasure experienced the system firsthand with the steady support of a CASA volunteer by her side. Today, she is an adoptive parent to children who also experienced foster care—each supported by their own CASA volunteer through CASA of Jefferson County. As executive director, Whitney Roberts reminds us,
“CASA volunteers may be present for only a chapter in a child’s life—but that chapter can influence the entire story. This training is a chance to witness that truth in action and to be reminded that what you do matters—long after the case is closed.”
Treasure’s story weaves together the perspectives of youth, parent, and the long-term impact of advocacy in a way few trainings can. Through honest storytelling, reflection, and discussion, volunteers will gain a deeper understanding of how advocacy is experienced by children, how consistent and trauma-informed support can influence long-term outcomes, and how even brief moments of connection can help guide a child toward permanency.
These trainings are intentionally developed by Program Manager Michelle Zimmermann, who closely examines why cases are opening in our county and identifies trends and issues that are negatively impacting children and families. By partnering with community stakeholders and individuals with firsthand experience, Michelle ensures volunteers are equipped with meaningful, real-world insight that strengthens their advocacy and prepares them to respond effectively.
At CASA of Jefferson County, our service to the community is taken very seriously. We are proud to be a trusted network of dedicated individuals who are prepared to take on this work and to stand alongside the children who need advocacy most.
