Short story….

Tax Reform Expands Philanthropy Opportunities

Starting with the 2026 tax year, a new provision in U.S. tax law will enable more individuals to support charities like CASA of Jefferson County through a simplified deduction process. Beginning in 2026, for the first time, non-itemizers—taxpayers who do not typically itemize deductions—will be allowed to deduct cash donations to qualified charities up to $1,000 for single filers or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly. This change, part of the broader effort to modernize tax incentives for charitable giving, removes a long-standing barrier for millions of Americans seeking to give back without sacrificing tax benefits.

Individual Retirement Account (IRA) Charitable Rollover

Leave a Legacy

As individuals approach retirement age, they often look for ways to make a positive impact on their community while also managing their tax obligations. One valuable opportunity is the Individual Retirement Account (IRA) Charitable Rollover, which allows donors aged 70 1/2 and older to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to a charity, such as the CASA of Jefferson County.

A 73-year-old donor with an IRA has to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), and can allocate any or all of their RMD to support a worthy cause, like CASA of Jefferson County, without incurring income tax on the donated amount. By doing so, they can avoid paying taxes on the distribution, reduce their taxable income, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. By choosing CASA as the beneficiary of their IRA Charitable Rollover, donors can help provide vital support and advocacy for vulnerable children in their community, ensuring they receive the care and protection they deserve. This thoughtful and tax-efficient giving strategy allows individuals to leave a lasting legacy while also fulfilling their philanthropic goals.
