A Fleeting Victory for CASA of Jefferson County

A fleeting victory for CASA of Jefferson County saw its waitlist of children in need of an advocate vanish for a mere two days. However, the relentless demand for compassionate support quickly resurfaced with the arrival of four new children that very week.

This scenario, described by the organization as "the landscape for our program the last year and a half," highlighting a critical and ongoing challenge: "As soon as we assign children, more come in." Despite this persistent influx, CASA of Jefferson County remains steadfast in its mission. Dedicated to ensuring every child's voice is heard, the team has already met with several experienced Court Appointed Child Advocates to staff these four newest cases, expressing confidence that "these children will have a voice very soon." Addressing the root cause of the ever-present need, CASA is actively preparing to host another vital new CASA Volunteer Training. This comprehensive training will take place at Ivy Tech every Tuesday evening throughout February, with an additional session on Thursday, February 26th. Prospective advocates eager to make a profound difference in a child's life are encouraged to apply now and join the ranks of those who provide critical support and a voice for the most vulnerable in our community.

CASA volunteers are everyday people from all walks of life who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. They are not social workers or lawyers, but rather trained individuals who bring compassion, empathy, and a commitment to advocacy. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to serve as a voice for foster children, ensuring that their needs are met and their voices are heard throughout the entire judicial process.

As a CASA volunteer, you will become a trusted voice for a vulnerable child, providing them with advocacy, support, and guidance as they navigate the complex legal system and seek a safe and stable future. As you investigate cases, gather information, and provide recommendations to the judge, you will play a vital role in ensuring that children's needs are met, their rights are protected, and they are placed in safe and permanent homes.
